Series name: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Canon notes: After visiting to Dathomir and narrowly escaping swarms of undead Nightsisters
Species: Human
Age: 19
Arrival Condition: Physically he's fairly healthy, if a little worn out and battered here and there from having to deal with hostilities in Dathomir. Mentally his confidence has been shaken in his mission and in who he is.
History: Wookiepedia link
Personality:
Ever since Order 66 and the fall of the Jedi Order, Cal Kestis has become used to looking out for himself and surviving. For five years he's suppressed all that he'd been taught in the Force, hiding that he was a Jedi in training for fear of his life. Becoming a scrapper, he saw firsthand how oppressive the Empire that had replaced the Republic has become. The work was hard and dangerous, but it was something to do, although it constantly brought him ghosts of the past in the form of old Republic ships that he and his fellow scappers would have to break down. Yet, when the time came, Cal didn't hesitate to open himself to the Force in order to save a friend, even though he knew that he'd put a lot at risk.
He's still young, and despite having anything but an ordinary childhood, having been raised in the Jedi Order, he's also had a rough taste of independence and living for himself. He's learned to go along with whatever happens, he has a sense of humor and a taste for music. To an extent, he can be adventurous. Maybe it's stemmed from his upbringing but he'll come to aid and protect those in need. The unfortunate events thankfully haven't forged him into an overly serious person nor made him afraid to try things, but they have left their mark on him, the trauma experienced from the betrayal of their troops and the death of his master having left deep scars that always lurk close especially when he opens himself up to the Force. He's learned to deal with it, or thought he had.
It took him some time after being rescued and taken in by a former Jedi and her gambler pilot, but Cal's started to find his footing with the sense of purpose Cere had given him. He's come to realize that the time for hiding is over, and that something needed to be done about the Empire. While he doesn't outright seek the attention of the Imperials, he's unafraid to face them when they cross his path, which is unfortunately quite often ever since he's popped up on their Jedi radar. He tries to be cautious about what he does and where he gets involved, although if he's able to offer assistance to others, he's more than willing to tackle more dangerous objectives. It's not particularly because he's confident in his abilities as a Jedi, or at least the closest thing to one that anyone might see these days. He's just gotten himself back skill-wise to the point where he'd left off five years ago before the Purge, and he knows he can't just sit around or hide anymore.
Working as a scrapper has bred some sense of daring, perhaps even borderline recklessness. The places he's had to work on Bracca with the Scrapper Guild are anything but safe and were often miles high without any sort of safety rigging below. Even without using the Force, Cal's become accustomed to leaping and climbing and sliding down treacherous paths and boldly exploring potential shortcuts. He doesn't necessarily take action without looking, but he knows that when you have blaster bolts flying at you from all directions or some swarm of aggravated beasts, then you have to improvise as you see fit. Being able to use the Force to help along with that certainly doesn't hurt.
When it comes to fight or flight, Cal tends to default on the former, if only because that just means more trouble to contend with when they catch up to you later. He doesn't pull his punches if it's a serious fight for his life, and with a lightsaber in his hand, he's unflinching if he has to deal a death blow. It's not something he relishes in, and he'd rather avoid a conflict if possible. However if it's a fight someone wants, then he'll give them one.
He's slow in coming to trust others, although not as bad as he had been when first picked up off of Bracca. It's taken him some time to acknowledge those he's come to travel with as friends, and the first real friend he makes after his escape is with a little droid that knows something about being on your own. At the start he'd been wary about everyone, and understandably so. The Jedi were denounced as traitors, and the Empire has eyes and ears everywhere, and Inquisitors ready to sniff out and destroy any that were left. Being a survivor after those he'd once considered comrades suddenly and without seeming reason turned on him and his master has left Cal paranoid, and the trauma of that fateful day still haunts him. He still feels he's failed his master Jaro Tapal, a guilt that's manifested and tested him on Dathomir, leaving him with not only a broken lightsaber but a shattered confidence.
Abilities:
Cal's athletic, an excellent climber and quite agile. Working on old starships demands a lot, and if you aren't quick on your feet then you're as good as dead. Cal's also learned quite a bit about engineering and mechanics, which he's put to use in upgrading his lightsaber and making repairs and upgrades to his little droid, BD-1.
As a padawan, Cal was a Jedi in training, strong in the Force, which is described as an energy field present around and within all living things that binds everything together. Through it Cal can gain a sense of premonition, or aid himself to accomplish superhuman feats such as leaping higher and farther or running on walls for short distances. He can extend his reach through it by grasping far away objects and targets, pulling things or likewise pushing them, sometimes forcefully enough to break through things like crumbling stone or warped metal, or shove back any opposing forces. In combination he can even levitate and manipulate an object without having to touch it. Cal can also slow things down for a brief time, reaching out with the Force to seize hold of objects in motion to hold them in place. Likewise he can also enhance his perceptions to better anticipate the movements of those he may be fighting against, which to him might make it seem like time's slowed down for those around him.
His special Force ability is psychometry, which Cere Junda called a rare skill even among Jedi. A tactile ability, Cal is able to read the "memory" or emotions attached to an object if he comes into contact with it. He can hear the voices and in some instances see what was seen, depending on the circumstances surrounding whoever something belonged to. While most of the time he is the one who initiates psychometric readings, if a memory is strong enough, it can override his senses and forcibly trigger itself.
By way of fighting he is skilled with a lightsaber (which he will not have upon arrival, but it's busted anyway). He can use several forms including a single blade, a dual-blade, or two blades at once.
Personal Item: BD-1, Cal's exploration droid friend. Aside from being a stim storage, BD-1 can hold and project maps, scan and analyze objects and creatures, slice (hack) computer systems or other droids, give an extra boost to charge machinery, and act as a handy zipline pulley for Cal provided there are any tethered cables or ropes to do so.
Sample: TDM thread with Evangeline (I got a little confused as to the requirements since one thing says a top level isn't required anymore, so please let me know if this suffices!)
